I was diagnosed with PCOS at 15 and Adenomyosis at 28. My cycle has always been irregular, and the journey has been emotionally draining. After stopping birth control, symptoms worsened and I was told a hysterectomy was inevitable.

I have just undergone the UAE procedure for severe Adenomyosis with Dr. Wojno and would like to share my experience.
I reached out to Dr. Wojno a few months ago after I found out about her on social media. Right from the beginning I had an incredible experience. I had been suffering with severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding between periods no one could tell me what was wrong. My symptoms were getting worse and worse with each passing day. I found myself in tears one morning, a few weeks after another unsuccessful operation, and decided to contact Dr. Wojno to find out about her non-evasive treatments.
What I did not expect was for her to call me back PERSONALLY and have a discussion with me to better understand my symptoms. Immediately I felt that I had made the right decision reaching out, this was the first time ever having a Dr. contact me themselves rather than sending pages and pages to fill in or a third party call instead.
Dr. Wojno Immediately took time out to listen to what I had to say, Dr. Listened to understand and not to respond. Dr. Wojno explained the procedure to me in detail and also answered every question or concern I had with the utmost professionalism and empathy. I felt like a human being, not just another patient, something that is unheard of today.
Hannelie from Dr Wojno’s office contacted me and made sure that everything on the medical aid side was not only taken care of but explained to me. All I had to do was come to hospital, where Hannelie was waiting for me. She accompanied me to the ward and made sure i was comfortable. Dr. Wojno came to see me as well, bringing me her care pack, such a thoughtful gesture
Dr Bessing, also part of Dr. Wojno’s team, my anesthetist came to see me and explained what will happen and happily answered all my questions putting me at ease.
When I went up to theatre, Dr. Wojno wheeled me in herself, something I had never experienced before, making my anxiety disappear altogether, she held my hand every step of the way, speaking words of encouragement ensuring I was 100% relaxed.
When I woke up from the procedure, Dr Wojno was there telling me how well it went. Dr. came up to my ward not too long after to share her findings and check that i was ok.
The next day Dr. Wojno came to see me and explain what I would be feeling and what to expect. When I was discharged, Dr Wojno pulled up a chair and sat with me explaining my recovery, what to do and what not to do, what to expect and again made sure I understand what each medication prescribed was for and when to use them.
I really had given up all hope of ever finding the reason or solution to my pain and suffering, I am so glad to have found Dr. Wojno when I did, depression was very quickly taking over. There was not one single doctor throughout this journey who paid as much attention or who cared to look deeper. Dr. Wojno is not just an extraordinary doctor but she is an amazing person. She adds a personal touch to everything and makes one feel safe and heard. Had it not been for Dr. Wojno, I honestly don’t know what would have become of me. She didn’t give up, she didn’t brush my feelings or experience under the rug, instead she took them on head on, with so much grace and conviction.
For all the ladies that think there’s nothing that can be done or that all hope is lost, I can assure you that’s not true, there is hope and Dr. Wojno taught me that there is always a way. I highly recommend her, one hundred percent. She went over and above, she properly investigated my test results, she made sure I was 100% informed at all times, she treated me like a person not just another paycheck. In all the months of struggling to find out what’s happening, in and out of hospital, test after test, unsuccessful operations, late night ER visits and being sent from pillar to post to find a solution, it took Dr. Wojno less than a week to pin point the problem and find the solution. She looked where others wouldn’t, she dug deeper, she believed.
I would like to thank Dr. Wojno publicly for being THE most amazing doctor I have ever dealt with, for being present and for being an amazing person. Your team is amazing, your work ethic unmatched and the genuine compassion you have for your patients real and comforting.

If it were not for Dr. Maja, I do not believe I ever would have had this procedure. I have never had a doctor offer the level of expertise, care and understanding that she has. From the first date of my menstruation as a young teenager I experienced immense pain, my mom took me to the doctor’s and at the age of 13 put on to the pill. No further questions, no further tests. As years went by I changed between pills to adjust accordingly and as and when I had my gynae visits.
At the age of 25 I stopped the pill to try fall pregnant with my now ex husband, it wasn’t successful, and my ex also had a roll to play as we never really tested for his fertility. We got divorced I went t back on the pill and carried on with life. At the age of 41, I got tired of struggling with my weight management and decided to stop the pill, I was single and had nothing to loose except the weight. I did well, lost weight, and felt stable, with my hormones in tact, except my periods where sometimes heavier and irregular. I entered into a relationship and decided I do not want to to go on the pill and I do not want children. So I investigated and found a doctor (who I will not recommend) she helped me with the procedure to cut my tubes and a DNC, she ensured me this is the best procedure for a woman my age and with the DNC I will never experience period or bleeding again. Fast track 2 and a half years later, I am experiencing abnormal bleeding, and immense pain, I knew I had to do something.
I first came across Dr. Maja’s post on Instagram in October 2024, and every question she asked I could relate to. It had the option to request a call back, and within no time at all, there was this friendly, warm, kind, and concerned voice on the other end of the line. Dr. Maja asked me some further questions and then gave me the number of a gynaecologist I could go see. I called the gynaecologist, and they sent me codes to see if my medical aid would cover the visit. Sadly, it would not, and I did not have the funds to pay upfront. Time went by and my symptoms and pain progressed. As life stress became heavy, so did the bleeding and the pain.
Eventually, in August, while I was traveling for work, I experienced immense pain and discomfort with heavy bleeding. I decided to call Dr. Maja for her help. As she answered the phone, it was as if we had spoken just yesterday. She remembered everything about me. Even though she was away traveling, she provided the utmost care and prescribed me some pain medication. She very quickly secured an appointment for me with the gynaecologist. Her assistant, Hannelie, with the most precious heart and soul, made sure I was taken care of and that no time was wasted for me to get the attention I needed. Following my appointment, Dr. Maja knew exactly what to treat me for, and Hannelie took care of all the arrangements with my medical aid. At every point, I knew exactly where I stood.
I even received a welcome pack with a hot water bottle for my tummy, lip balm, and nail polish. I was given a calming tablet to help me stay relaxed for my MRI. Following that, Dr. Maja was at my bedside giving me my results. It turns out I have adenomyosis, and she assured me that the uterine fibroid embolization procedure was exactly what was required. When I was rolled into the theatre, I could even choose the music. I have never been so relaxed when going in for a procedure. Today I am lying in this hospital bed at Netcare Parklane, one day after my uterine fibroid embolization procedure. I have never felt so taken care of. The staff are friendly and caring. Dr. Maja checks on me twice a day and has been available on WhatsApp. My entire experience, from the first phone call to the day of being discharged, has been the most amazing experience.
2 weeks post procedure, Dr Maja and Hannelie have been supportive and attentive throughout the whole healing journey. I have found it difficult to stop and relax, resisting and wanting to get going get moving and start living normally, I can understand now why I was booked off for two
weeks, I didn’t realise the seriousness of the recovery nor the importance. At times where I thought I was fine, the very moment I over exert myself my body stopped me and forced me to rest and Dr Maja has been there to coach and remind me every step of the way to be kind to myself and listen to my body.
Its been 6 weeks since I’ve done the procedure and I must say I feel alive after 3 years of constant pain 💔😢 Thank you so much Dr. Maja and team ❤️😘
